The men and women delegates of the Philippines to the 40th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey finished their first assignments to cap it off with a 4-0 score.

The men’s division with Super Grandmaster Wesley, Oliver Barbosa, Mark Paragua, and Oliver Dimakiling trampled on their Libyan foes on the first, second, third, and fourth boards, respectively.

The women, on the other hand, also won over their Pakistani contemporaries. The wins came from Catherine Perena, Rulp Ylem Jose, Janelle Mae Frayna, and Jedara Docena.

The men’s will next face the Moldovians which banners chess masters Viktor Bologan, Dmitry Svetyshkin, Sergey Vedmeduic, and Iulian Baltag.
