The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) has reminded all residents in Eastern Samar to be very cautious of the aftershocks after the region was shocked with a 7.7 magnitude earthquake.

PHIVOLCS has already recorded about 270 aftershocks in the region which are mostly unfelt.

PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum said that most of the aftershocks were unfelt because its epicentre is located 100 kilometers from the land which is why there is not enough energy to force the lands to move.

PHIVOLCS recorded the strongest aftershock with a magnitude of five.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Center has already recorded a total of Php14 million worth of losses due to the strong earthquake.
